A 25‑year‑old cook from Bihar lost his life after a vehicle struck him and dragged him almost a hundred metres in Pragathinagar, within the Electronics City police zone, on the night of October 21. The victim has been identified as Ranjit Kumar Sahu, employed as a cook at a paying‑guest house in BTM Layout. He was taken to a private hospital in Madiwala for severe injuries to his head, chest, right leg and other parts of his body, but died despite medical efforts, police said. According to a complaint lodged by his friend Nitish Mukhiya, Ranjit had travelled to Electronics City to celebrate the Dasara festival. After the celebrations, he and his friends were walking to the brother’s house of the complainant in Pragathinagar where they intended to stay overnight. While crossing the road, a white compact sedan sped towards them. Ranjit’s group asked the driver to reduce speed. The occupants allegedly reacted angrily, turned the car around and returned to confront the pedestrians. An argument broke out between the two groups. The driver then attempted to ram the crowd. Others stepped aside, but Ranjit was hit. The car ran over his legs and pulled him for nearly 100 metres before the occupants left him on the Hosur service road and fled. Electronics City police have filed a case against unidentified individuals and are investigating to locate the suspects.
Context
