Chinese automaker BYD has confirmed that its luxury brand, Denza, will officially launch in India on November 13, 2026, starting with the Z9 GT shooting brake and the D9 luxury MPV.
The Vehicles
The range-topping Z9 GT is an all-electric shooting brake expected to cost between Rs 1.2 crore and Rs 1.5 crore. It uses a 122.5kWh battery paired with three electric motors that push 1,156 horsepower to all four wheels. This setup enables a zero to 100 kph time of 2.7 seconds, a top speed of 270 kph, and a WLTP driving range of 600 kilometres. It also supports ultra-fast charging up to 1,500kW, allowing a 10 to 97 percent charge in just nine minutes, alongside unique tricks like a 360-degree compass turn and crab walk capability. Meanwhile, the D9 luxury MPV will compete against models like the MG M9 and Toyota Vellfire with an expected price around Rs 90 lakh. It features a 103kWh battery, a front-mounted motor generating 313 horsepower and 360Nm of torque, and a WLTP range of 520 kilometres. Cabin amenities for the D9 include electrically adjustable second-row captain's chairs with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, plus three-zone climate control and full leather upholstery.
Context
Automotive brands frequently introduce dedicated luxury sub-brands to target high-end buyers with specialized engineering and premium features separate from their mass-market vehicles. Bringing high-performance electric shooting brakes and luxury people carriers to a new market highlights how foreign manufacturers are testing the appetite for ultra-high-end battery-powered cars in India.
