Telangana will set up a Common Facility Centre in Gachibowli and new eco-friendly tanneries in Karimnagar district to grow the state leather sector and boost business skills for Scheduled Caste youth, Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu announced on Saturday.

Project Details

The new centre in Gachibowli will come up on 3.5 acres using a hub-and-spoke model. It will help local artisans with product design, new items, and branding so they can sell goods for better prices. Meanwhile, the tanneries at Rukmapur in Choppadandi mandal of Karimnagar will follow global green standards and are expected to create about 1,000 jobs. Minister Sridhar Babu shared these plans following a review meeting with officials from the Telangana Leather Industries Promotion Corporation.

Factory Complexes

Authorities are also working to build factory complexes under the Micro and Small Enterprises Cluster Development Programme. These will use a plug-and-play setup at Jammikunta in Huzurabad constituency and Armoor. During the meeting, the Minister told officials to visit the field and check the current status of lands earlier given to LIDCAP.

Context

State governments often promote specialized manufacturing clusters to bring small local makers together and help them compete better in wider markets. Such industrial initiatives aim to combine job creation with skill training for specific communities.
