Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Mysuru MP and descendant of the former royal family, has called on the state government to draft a specific protocol for the Dasara rituals at Mysuru Palace. He said there is no clear rule on which dignitaries may step onto the platform to shower flower petals on the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari during the Jamboo Savari and to take part in the Nandi Dhwaja puja on Vijayadashami. Responding to questions about a reported breach of protocol at this year’s Vijayadashami celebrations, he remarked, "Nobody knows what the protocol is. Let the government clearly spell it out and conduct the proceedings in accordance with its stipulations in the coming years." He recalled that over the years he had seen the Chief Minister, the Deputy Chief Minister and several officials on the elevated platform. When asked why the chief ministers of Kerala, V.D. Satheesan, and Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, were allowed as guests without the duty of offering petals, he asked, "How can you invite them as guests and not ask them to shower flower petals on the deity?" He noted that police had stopped some ministers from entering the enclosure during the Nandi Dhwaja puja, adding that a formal protocol would prevent such confusion. Yaduveer suggested limiting the number of participants, arguing that the presence of the Chief Minister alone would be sufficient since he represents the people.
Context
The Dasara celebrations in Mysuru feature the Jamboo Savari procession and the Nandi Dhwaja puja, both key religious events that draw political leaders and officials, making clear participation rules important for smooth conduct.
