New Delhi will host the BRICS Theatre Festival from October 12 to 14, featuring theatrical productions from nine countries including India, Russia, Iran, and South Africa.

Festival Details

Union Culture Secretary Vivek Aggarwal announced at a press conference that India will present two plays, while other participating nations will showcase their own unique languages and performance traditions. The festival follows the BRICS Summit held in Delhi on September 12 and 13. Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, and Ethiopia will also take part in the event. The Ministry of Culture is organising the festival under the theme 'Shared Stories, Shared Futures'. Over 100 theatre artists, scholars, students, and cultural representatives from the nine member and partner countries will attend.

Schedule and Venues

The event opens at the National School of Drama on October 12 with the Indian production 'Samudra Manthan'. Russia will stage 'Circus on Stings', Iran will present 'Hidden', and Thailand will show 'Lak Sida' on October 13. The closing play is 'Louha Purush', a production about the life and legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Performances will take place at the National School of Drama's Abhimanch and Sammukh auditoriums, along with Kamani Auditorium, LTG Auditorium, and Meghdoot Theatre. The schedule includes classical and contemporary plays, plus interactive workshops and discussions on stagecraft, acting, and artistic vision. The National School of Drama will act as the nodal agency for the festival, which aims to build stronger people-to-people connections and cultural cooperation as outlined in the recent Bhopal Declaration.
