Professor grabs student by collar after heckle at Nirma University comedy show

Professor seized a student by the collar on stage after the youngster shouted a Bollywood line during a college comedy night. The incident unfolded at Nirma University in Ahmedabad when a student yelled "Jaldi kar, Panvel nikalna hai", a line from the film Golmaal 3, as a professor was speaking. The visibly angry faculty member called the student up, warned, "I can go to any extent. The day you dare to insult any faculty member of the Nirma University campus, you are gone forever," and then grabbed the boy by the collar. The clash was captured in a video that spread widely on social media, though Hindustan Times could not confirm its authenticity. The episode occurred during Technofora 2026, a three‑day student‑run festival organized by the Institute of Technology from September 18 to 20. The event was headlined by comedian Rajat Sood, known for his "Pomedy" mix of poetry and comedy and followed by close to one million Instagram fans. After the video went viral, the National Students Union of India (NSUI), a Congress‑linked body, demanded an apology and an inquiry. NSUI national coordinator Bhavik Solanki said the student faced inappropriate behaviour and warned of a protest if the professor did not apologise. No official response from the university or the professor has been reported yet.
