Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a bhajan clubbing event at Delhi's Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Park on Friday evening to mark the birth anniversary of Bharatiya Jana Sangh leader Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. A video from the event showed Modi sitting in the front row as performers on stage wore prominent saffron-shaded dresses and sang devotional songs. Modi wore an orange waistcoat over a white kurta-pyjama. Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister paid tributes to Upadhyaya and praised his philosophy of Antyodaya as the base of public welfare and national development. In a post on X, Modi stated that Upadhyaya regarded the upliftment of the person standing in the last row of society as the foundation of nation-building. He urged citizens to internalize these ideals and fulfill their social and national responsibilities, while sharing a Sanskrit Subhashitam about how success comes from continuous effort and courage rather than luck. Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya was born on September 25, 1916, and became a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. In the 1940s, he started the monthly publication Rashtra Dharma to spread the ideals of the Hindutva revival and served as an RSS thinker. He became president of the Jana Sangh in December 1967 and passed away on February 11, 1968, under mysterious circumstances when his body was found near Mughal Sarai junction, which has since been renamed as Deendayal Upadhyay junction.
