At least 12 people suffered injuries, including six children, during a shooting near a football stadium in Tallahassee on October 24, 2026. The incident took place on homecoming weekend for Florida A&M University in a crowded area after a football game.
What Happened
Police state that a fight broke out just before the shooting started. Out of the 12 injured people, 11 sustained gunshot wounds, and at least three victims suffered serious injuries. Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell confirmed to reporters on Saturday that authorities had not made any arrests yet. The university shared on social media that the shooting occurred near its campus, but added that the campus itself remained safe.
Context
Large university events like homecoming weekends often bring big crowds to surrounding areas, which can sometimes lead to public safety challenges for local law enforcement. Police departments typically rely on preliminary investigations and witness statements to track down suspects when no immediate arrests happen after a violent incident.
