Bournemouth storms Old Trafford as pressure mounts on Manchester United

UPDATE - follow-up to Manchester United v Bournemouth, Liverpool v Brighton and more: clockwatch – live: Bournemouth secured a commanding victory at Old Trafford as Manchester United slumped to a heavy defeat amid ongoing defensive frailties and managerial uncertainty.

Match Action

Evanilson opened the scoring by racing onto a pass from Adams, rounding goalkeeper Lammens, and curling a brilliant finish into the far side-netting from the right side of the box. Bournemouth doubled their lead when a loose ball in the box fell for Igor Thiago, who squared to Ouattara for a simple tap-in from close range. The visitors added a third when Rayan finished clinically after a defensive error by Heaven and Maguire, sealing a dominant display.

Team Decisions

Manager Michael Carrick left Bruno Fernandes on the bench for the duration of the match, introducing substitutes such as Shea Lacey, Joshua Zirkzee, and Matheus Cunha during the second half. Lacey had earlier replaced the unproductive Amad, while Martinez entered the fray in place of Heaven, who endured a difficult outing in defense.

Context

Manchester United's struggles this season have placed intense scrutiny on the club's leadership and managerial stability. Bournemouth's clinical performance highlights the growing gap between their well-organised squad and United's ongoing squad reconstruction challenges.
