The Indian women's kabaddi team won the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games on Saturday by beating Iran in a close final match with a score of 37-34 at the Tokai Citizen Gymnasium in Aichi-Nagoya. The team stayed unbeaten throughout the whole tournament. Earlier in Pool A, India beat Bangladesh and Japan, and also defeated Iran during the group stage to take the top spot. This win is India's third gold medal of the ongoing Asiad, coming after the women's cricket team won and the shooting pair of Suruchi Singh Phogat and Kamaljeet won the 10m Air Pistol mixed team event on Friday. Women's kabaddi has been played at the Asian Games since 2010. India has won the gold in every edition except for the 2018 Jakarta Games, where they finished second behind Iran. This victory also marks India's 12th overall gold medal in kabaddi at the Asian Games, with the men's team having won eight golds since 1990. The Indian men's team is also scheduled to play Iran in their own gold-medal match later on Saturday.
