Tesla is joining forces with car‑rental platform Turo to label Teslas that have Full Self‑Driving (Supervised) and to give eligible Turo hosts a one‑month free trial of the software. Turo will use Tesla’s API to verify which cars have FSD enabled and will display the feature on its marketplace. Tesla said last week that about 1.7 million customers worldwide have paid for FSD, out of more than 10 million Teslas built and sold to date. In North America, over 75 % of buyers who took delivery in the third quarter chose an FSD subscription, roughly a 20 % rise from the second quarter, even as overall U.S. sales slipped. CEO Elon Musk posted that people are now buying a car with FSD attached rather than the other way around. Finance chief Vaibhav Taneja added that customers are asking to “get into an FSD drive” instead of requesting a specific model. Turo noted that Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y rank as its third and fourth most popular vehicles this year. CEO Andre Haddad said the integration expands host earnings as interest in self‑driving tech grows, citing internal research that 55 % of Americans and 71 % of Gen Z are interested in driverless travel. Renters of an FSD‑enabled Tesla on Turo will see a warning that they must supervise the system and can watch a Tesla‑made tutorial. Listings may be marked as “Self‑Driving” to attract renters. ## Context The partnership lets more everyday drivers experience advanced driver‑assistance, a step that could push broader acceptance of autonomous features as they become common in rental fleets.
