UPDATE - follow-up to Artificial Intelligence giant Anthropic files for Initial Public Offering: Artificial Intelligence firm Anthropic reported $16.3 billion in revenue for the first half of 2026, alongside an $80.7 billion net loss driven by valuation-related accounting charges.

Growth And Losses

Revenue grew significantly from $1.16 billion in the same period last year. The net loss widened from $13 billion previously due to expenses tied to changes in the estimated value of financing instruments. Operating loss dropped to $693 million from $2.14 billion, while adjusted operating income reached $1.6 billion with a 10 percent margin. Computing and infrastructure expenses reached $8.95 billion, and the firm held $131.7 billion in cash and short-term investments as of June 30.

Customer Base

Existing customer revenue grew ninefold in the three months ending September 30 compared to the previous year. The company had over 11,900 customers generating at least $100,000 over the preceding twelve months, up from more than 950. More than 1,900 customers generated at least $1 million, and roughly 250 generated at least $10 million.

Market Plans

Anthropic filed a registration statement with the SEC on October 26 to list its Class A common stock on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol ANT, following a confidential draft submission on June 1. The share count and price range remain undecided. A governance structure will keep 50.1 percent of general voting power with a co-founder entity, and a Long-Term Benefit Trust will appoint a majority of the board.

Context

Going public allows a private company to raise capital from the open market by selling shares to everyday investors. Technology firms often experience high infrastructure costs as they build and train complex software models before achieving stable profits.
