Net Injury
Indian ODI captain Shubman Gill took a blow to his right elbow while batting in the nets two days before the first ODI against West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram. Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj delivered the ball that hit Gill, and the batter did not return to bat afterwards. Gill left the nets holding his right elbow and looking to be in pain.
Medical Attention
Mohammed Siraj quickly ran over to check on Gill, who walked out of the nets with the team physio. Gill sat on a cooler box by the side of the nets for 45 minutes. The physio checked his shoulder flexibility and applied an ice pack for 20 minutes before putting plaster on his elbow. Other players including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Gurnoor Brar, and Yashasvi Jaiswal checked on him during the session. Gill received the ice pack again as a precaution over an hour after taking the hit and stayed until near the end of the practice session, packing up his own gear with his bat and pads.
Fitness Update
Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak confirmed on the eve of the game that Gill was fine and ready to play in the series.
