South Africa reached 118 for three after 20 overs against Australia in the second men's one-day international at the Wanderers Stadium. Captain Temba Bavuma and David Miller were at the crease, with Bavuma on 51 and Miller on 16. Bavuma brought up his half-century with a cut shot for two runs before taking a blow on his forearm from a delivery by Jack Edwards. Earlier in the innings, Australia claimed three early wickets after winning the toss or starting with the ball. Josh Hazlewood struck with the very first ball of the match, removing Markram, who hammered a short and wide delivery straight to Connolly for a stunning one-handed catch at cover-point. Hazlewood later removed Quinton de Kock for three after the batter chased a wide delivery and edged it behind to wicketkeeper Alex Carey. Breetzke, who scored a century in the previous game in Durban, looked in fine form with 34 runs before becoming Jack Edwards' first ODI wicket in his second game, caught behind by Carey after edging a hard-length delivery off the bouncy surface. Spinners Adam Zampa and Cooper Connolly were also introduced into the attack as Australia rotated their bowlers.
