Representative image · PexelsAn avalanche on Sunday left twelve Nepali climbers and support staff unaccounted for near the Himlung Himal peak in Manang district. The slide struck the camp at the foot of the 7,126‑metre mountain in the Nar Phu area and collapsed a tent that was sheltering nine climbers together with thirteen members of the support crew. Deputy Superintendent of the Armed Police Force, Shailendra Thapa, said about a dozen people are missing and that all of them are Nepalese citizens. He warned that some of the missing may have been injured or killed. A rescue helicopter has been sent to the site, and officials are awaiting further details. The missing trekkers were part of two companies – Himalayan Holidays Nepal and Imagine Nepal Treks – which lost contact after the snow rush. An expedition member reported that their friends vanished when the avalanche hit and that the group was scattered, leaving no clear picture of who survived. Ram Krishna Lamichhane, the director‑general of the Department of Tourism, confirmed that authorities are closely watching the situation. The disaster occurs as continuous rain and snowfall across Nepal’s mountain districts have been triggering landslides and floods.
