Virat Kohli hit his 55th one-day century during the opening match against the West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. The thirty-seven-year-old batter used seventy-four balls for his innings, hitting six fours and six sixes. With this knock, Kohli matched Sachin Tendulkar's record of sixty List A hundreds. He also set a new mark for the most international hundreds in a single country, reaching forty-two in India.
Team Milestones
Captain Shubman Gill also scored his tenth one-day century, becoming the fastest Indian to reach ten hundreds in the format by taking just sixty-seven innings. Earlier in the match, Kohli passed fifteen thousand one-day runs. He reached his half-century in forty balls and became only the second player after Tendulkar to cross the fifteen-thousand-run mark in the fifty-over format. Tendulkar took three hundred and seventy-seven innings to get there, while Kohli did it in three hundred and three innings.
Bowling And Opposition Innings
India restricted the West Indies to two hundred and ninety-five for seven in the first innings. West Indies openers Justin Greaves and John Campbell shared a partnership of one hundred and thirty-five runs in nineteen and a half overs after being sent in to bat. Greaves scored one hundred and one runs from one hundred and eight balls, while Campbell made sixty-two runs from sixty balls. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav stopped their momentum by taking four wickets for forty runs on a pitch that helped spinners. Kuldeep dismissed Campbell, West Indies captain Shai Hope, centurion Greaves, and Jewel Andrew in quick succession. The West Indies slipped from one hundred and seventy-six for one to one hundred and ninety-eight for five. Amir Jangoo then scored an unbeaten fifty-eight runs to help his team near the three-hundred-run mark with partnerships alongside Roston Chase and Matthew Ford.
