Garena has renamed its Indian YouTube channels to Free Fire India Official and Free Fire India Esports, dropping the Free Fire MAX branding and sparking fresh rumours about the game's return. However, the company has not officially announced a release date, and October 28 remains unconfirmed.
Creator Rumours
Gaming creators Amit Sharma, also known as Desi Gamers, and Nayan Shelke, known as Assassinarmy, shared updates about a promotional shoot in Dubai. Desi Gamers stated he travelled for a shoot alongside creators Munna, Nayan, Ritik and Delete, and indicated the title would arrive soon on app stores. Assassinarmy pointed to October 28, 2026, as a possible release date in an Instagram video, though both creators are part of Garena's creator programme rather than official spokespersons.
Past Delays
Garena originally announced Free Fire India in August 2023 with a planned launch on September 5 that year, but postponed it on September 4 to refine the gameplay. This followed the February 2022 ban of the original Free Fire, while Free Fire MAX stayed available. The India-specific version was initially slated to feature localized settings, safety tools and cricketer MS Dhoni as its brand ambassador, though a new launch date was never provided after the initial delay.
App Store Details
The game currently holds an official Google Play listing under Garena International III featuring battle royale modes, Clash Squad, Craftland custom maps and over 50 characters. The listing mentions safety features like playtime limits and parental controls, but Garena has not confirmed the final launch features, iOS availability, or how player accounts from Free Fire MAX will transfer.
Context
Gaming companies often update social media branding and run promotional shoots with creators ahead of major product rollouts to build public interest. Localized gaming apps in India frequently undergo extensive preparation to meet domestic compliance and safety standards before a final release.
