Tamil Nadu’s Social Justice Minister Vanni Arasu inspected rain‑hit villages in Kallakurichi district on Monday and ordered officials to tighten precautionary measures. Accompanied by District Collector J.E. Padmaja, he visited Porasakurichi and Virugavur in the Thiyagadurgam block. He noted that the district administration had already taken steps for the Northeast monsoon but urged further action. He directed officials to identify vulnerable spots, monitor preparedness and respond instantly to any rain‑related problems. He asked for a list of local volunteers and for coordination with them during emergencies. He also told the health department to keep a close watch on all areas to stop outbreaks of infectious diseases. Officials were reminded to guarantee chlorinated drinking water, uninterrupted electricity and speedy delivery of essential services. Any call received at the district control room must be answered right away and passed to the relevant department for action.
Context
Kallakurichi, a largely agricultural district, often faces flooding during the Northeast monsoon, which can disrupt water supply and health services.
