Apple's much anticipated foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, is facing a rough launch as early users report screens cracking after just hours or days of use. The device was announced at this year's Surprise and Shine event, where Apple promised it had finally solved the tricky problems of folding screen design. Bloomberg reports that some users heard a loud crunching noise before a crack appeared, while others experienced display malfunctions. Meanwhile, 404 Media states that early buyers are dealing with big creases down the middle of the two thousand dollar folding screen. Apple told Bloomberg that it is aware of an issue affecting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units. TechCrunch also reached out to Apple for comment.
Context
Making a working foldable phone has been a long goal for companies in Silicon Valley, but many past models have suffered from similar screen problems. While Apple claimed it had fixed these design hurdles, these early buyer complaints show the challenge may still exist.
