Samsung's P9 MicroSD Express cards for the Nintendo Switch 2 have dropped to under $50 for the 256 GB model. The 256 GB card is listed at $47.99 on Amazon and B&H Photo, while the 512 GB version sells for $99 at the same sites. Normally the smaller card retails around $80 and the larger one between $150 and $200, prices that remain above the launch level because of the ongoing global memory shortage. First‑party Switch 2 games typically occupy 10–30 GB each; the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is 27 GB, and third‑party titles can be larger, such as Cyberpunk 2077 at 60 GB. Depending on game size, a single 256 GB card can hold dozens of titles, and a 512 GB card can store well over a hundred smaller games. The Switch 2 is one of the few consoles that can use the faster MicroSD Express format, a capability now shared by Asus's ROG Ally X20 handheld, which runs Windows 11 and offers similar storage speed despite a higher price tag.
Context
MicroSD Express replaces the older SD interface with a PCIe‑based link, delivering much faster read and write speeds that benefit game loading times. The current chip shortage has pushed memory prices up, making discounted deals like Samsung's especially valuable for gamers needing extra space.
