Five people died and six were wounded in a shooting near Hotel Bilas Inn in Guwahati’s Bora Service area on Monday night. The attack occurred at around 9 pm and police say it stemmed from a dispute over the hotel’s lease. The accused, identified as Ghanakanta Gogoi, was arrested within an hour and the weapon was seized. Four of the five dead were members of the hotel‑owner’s family. Guwahati Commissioner of Police Partha Sarathi Mahanta told reporters that the injured are receiving treatment and that a scientific investigation is under way. Mahanta added that the incident was linked to the lessee’s conflict with the owners over the property. ## Context Property and lease disagreements can sometimes lead to violent clashes, especially when families are directly involved, prompting swift police action in such cases.
