New Zealand trail 2-0 in the ongoing T20I series due to tight death bowling by the Indian team, according to all-rounder Michael Bracewell. Speaking ahead of the third match at the Basin Reserve in Wellington, Bracewell pointed out that the hosts failed to defend scores of 225 in the first game and 180 in the second because they missed out on extra runs.
Match Performance
Indian bowlers restricted the hosts by giving away only 26 runs in the final two overs of the opening match and 23 runs in the final two overs of the second game. Bracewell admitted that India's in-form opening batters, Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, posed a major challenge by giving their side a flying start with 94 runs during the power-play in the first match.
Team Strategy
Despite the series deficit, Bracewell praised New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner for slowing down the game and taking four wickets during the middle overs. He noted that the squad remains positive and expects to turn things around by executing their skills for longer periods.
Context
In international cricket, teams often analyze power-play and death-over performances closely to control the flow of runs in the shortest format of the game. Close margins are common in T20 matches, where a few tight overs at the end of an innings can completely change the match result.
