Confirmed by a second source: ICC
Indian wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan will miss the third T20I match against New Zealand due to an injury in his right leg. The Board of Control for Cricket in India stated on Monday that Kishan picked up a mild strain in his right adductor muscle during the opening match of the series.
Replacement Details
Kishan also sat out the second game of the five-match series, where teenage player Vaibhav Sooryavanshi took over the number three batting position and India won in a close finish. Kumar Kushagra, an uncapped wicketkeeper batter who joined the group from the India A tour as cover, will keep his spot in the team for the upcoming fixture at the Hnry Stadium in Wellington on Tuesday.
Recovery Status
Official updates confirm that Kishan is healing well, but he has not yet reached full match fitness. The medical team of the board continues to watch his progress closely while he goes through his rehabilitation. India currently holds a two-to-zero lead in the series following victories by four wickets in both Christchurch matches on October 22 and October 24.
Context
Muscular strains are common physical setbacks in fast-paced cricket formats like Twenty20 internationals, often requiring careful rest to prevent long-term damage. Team management frequently relies on backup players from shadow tours to step in quickly when main squad members get hurt during overseas bilateral series.
