JioHotstar releases trailer for dark new Student of the Year web series

JioHotstar has dropped the trailer for Student of the Year: After Dark, a murder‑mystery web series that re‑imagines the beloved campus competition franchise. The show follows Aayesha Malik, the popular “it girl” of St. Teresa’s Heritage School, whose mysterious death sparks the plot. Her twin sister Aditi, played by the same actress, refuses to accept an accidental death and enrolls in the school’s Student of the Year contest to hunt for clues. As Aditi moves through rivalries, hidden secrets and the pressure to win, each interaction with friends, a boyfriend and other suspects brings her closer to the truth. Shanaya Kapoor makes her OTT debut and tackles a double role for the first time. “Playing Ayesha and Aditi has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences for me,” she said, adding that the darker storyline attracted her. Director Reema Maya describes the series as a look at the relentless competition that can destroy friendships and even oneself. The series is produced by Dharmatic Entertainment and also features Abhinav Singh, Divik Sharma, Manya Grover, Deeya Damani, Adi Malik, Sheeba Chaddha (who plays the twins’ mother) and Vivek Gomber. It will stream exclusively on JioHotstar from November 13, 2026.

Context

The Student of the Year franchise began in 2012 as a rom‑com film series and later expanded with a sequel in 2019. This new web series shifts the tone to a thriller, aiming at today’s youth who feel the stress of intense competition.
