Amitabh Bachchan asked writers to increase Jaya Bachchan screen time in Sholay

Role Expansion

Actor Amitabh Bachchan suggested that writers Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar increase the screen time of Jaya Bachchan in the classic film Sholay.

Character Impact

Jaya Bachchan played Radha, the widowed daughter-in-law of Thakur Baldev Singh in the 1975 film directed by Ramesh Sippy. Amitabh Bachchan told the writers that expanding Radha's role, showing her silence and emotional depth, would make the story stronger.

Context

Classic films often go through creative changes during development based on inputs from lead actors and directors. Sholay remains a major milestone in Indian cinema history, decades after its release in theatres.
