The Kerala government will seek fresh funds to upgrade MC Road after a meeting of 18 MLAs and Speaker Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan on Thursday, Oct 29, 2026.
Development Plan
Public Works Minister P.K. Basheer told the Assembly that the four‑lane upgrade of the Kesavadasapuram–Angamaly and Kollam–Shengotta stretches was launched in 2022. He said a survey of the Mannanthala–Chengannur segment is complete and feasibility studies are under way.
Funding Challenge
An administrative sanction of ₹1,500 crore was given in principle by the previous LDF government, but the money has not yet been allocated. Basheer said separate financing must be found to start the work. He added that acquiring at least 100 hectares of private land will require another ₹5,000 crore.
Context
Large road projects in Kerala often face delays because land acquisition and fund allocation are handled by multiple agencies. The upcoming meeting aims to resolve these bottlenecks and move the MC Road project forward.
