The independently distributed novel series and tabletop role-playing game "iHunt: Killing Monsters in the Gig Economy" is being adapted into a feature film. Olivia Hill wrote the script for the project, which is led by the Chicago-based queer married writing duo Hill and Young under their Machine Age Productions banner. The creators have spent the last ten years developing the universe across seven novels. Scott Glosserman will direct the film, and Jess Elgene will star as Sandra, a new character created specifically for the movie.
Production Details
Production will take place in association with Anarchists United Studios. Lilly Wachowski, Sarah Marie Flores, and Lawrence Mattis are attached as executive producers. The feature is produced by Matt Skrobalak of Butler Hall Productions, Stirling Matheson of Bravura Arts and Entertainment Ltd., along with Hill and Filamena Young. The story takes place in the fictional California city of San Jenaro and follows three best friends who hunt monsters using a gig-work app. Alongside the movie, a television pilot written by Hill and Young is also in development with Anne Cofell Saunders attached as showrunner, while a vertical series titled "#iHunt: A Night in the Life" has also been created.
Context
Independent book series and tabletop role-playing games are increasingly attracting attention from film and television studios looking for established intellectual property with built-in fanbases. The project blends supernatural horror with modern economic themes like gig work and financial instability. Media adaptations in the horror-comedy genre often use fantastical elements to reflect real-world social commentary.
