YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has warned the ruling NDA leaders that they will face severe retaliation if they target his party workers. Speaking to party leaders, workers, and candidates in Pulivendula on Tuesday, he accused TDP leaders of attacking YSRCP cadres and using the police to intimidate the opposition.
Election Fairness
Mr. Jagan accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of changing election rules to target opposition parties and misleading the Election Commission. He questioned the fairness of local body elections, noting the NDA's claim of winning 17 urban local bodies unanimously before voting even took place. He pointed out that in Pulivendula, his party could only file nominations in 20 out of 40 wards and only four out of seven ZPTC seats due to the government's actions.
Context
Local body elections in India often see intense political rivalry and allegations from opposition parties regarding the misuse of official machinery and police force. Party leaders frequently use strong warnings and public meetings to rally their supporters and challenge the conduct of local polls.
