Sivakumar Praises Jyotika and Suriya as Couple Celebrates 20 Years

Tamil film actors Suriya and Jyotika recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary by renewing their wedding vows in a ceremony attended by their children Diya and Dev, actor Karthi, and other family members and friends. Veteran actor and Suriya's father Sivakumar shared details about the couple at the JFW Favourites Awards 2026 red carpet.

Family Life and Marriage

Sivakumar praised Jyotika for living with his family in Chennai for 18 years after their marriage instead of taking Suriya to Mumbai. He recalled that Suriya waited for four years before marrying Jyotika after meeting her. Sivakumar also noted that despite industry trends where some actors avoid childbirth or separate husbands from parents after marriage, Jyotika stayed with them and had two children. Suriya and Jyotika first acted together in the 1999 film Poovellam Kettuppar and worked in several movies before marrying in 2006.
