Bank employees across the country have called off their planned three-day nationwide strike after reaching an agreement with bank managements following a late-night meeting on Sunday, September 28, 2026.

Union Discussions

The online meeting lasted for about an hour and included seven union representatives and six banking executives. C. H. Venkatachalam, the general secretary of the All India Bank Employees Association, confirmed that all banks will now function normally since discussions were held on their three main demands.

Five-Day Week

To address the long-pending demand for a five-day working week, a high-level committee consisting of the Indian Banks' Association and the United Forum of Bank Unions will be formed immediately to look into how it can be put into practice. The United Forum of Bank Unions also stated in a circular that talks regarding the Performance Linked Incentive Scheme for Scale IV and above officers can begin with the Indian Banks' Association to suggest changes to the government. Remaining issues from a previous meeting dated March 8, 2024, will also be discussed quickly between both sides. Devidas Tuljapurkar, chairperson of the All India Bank of Maharashtra Employees' Federation, expressed happiness with the result and noted that customer convenience will be kept in mind while working out the five-day week plan.
