High Alert
Uttarkashi is on high alert after the India Meteorological Department issued a rain warning for the district. Disaster management teams, the Revenue Department, the police, the State Disaster Response Force, and the National Disaster Response Force are on standby.
Official Directions
District Magistrate Prashant Arya has ordered officials to ensure the safety of all trekkers currently on trekking routes or at base camps. Authorities have been told to work together and run rescue operations to move trekkers to safe places if needed. Officials must also keep JCB machines, food supplies, medicines, and backup communication tools ready to clear blocked roads and handle emergencies.
Warnings and Health Measures
People living in unsafe areas, along with tourists and pilgrims, have been asked to stay careful due to the risk of landslides, rising river water levels, and blocked roads. The District Magistrate also ordered the Health Department to place two ambulances and medical teams in Harsil to protect Char Dham pilgrims and tourists, while the district hospital medical team is on alert.
Context
Mountain regions often face severe weather risks like landslides and flash floods during heavy rain periods. Quick preparation by local authorities helps prevent major accidents and keeps rescue teams ready for remote areas.
