Prabhat Kumar Yadav, a 19-year-old from Jaunpur district in Uttar Pradesh, has secured an MBBS seat at King George's Medical University in Lucknow after achieving an All India Rank of 3864 in the NEET UG 2026 exam.
Family Struggle
His father, Mahendra Kumar Yadav, has spent the last 20 years driving an auto-rickshaw in Mumbai to support the family. Earning between 25,000 and 30,000 rupees a month, he managed to pay for his son's education instalment by instalment. Prabhat's maternal uncle also helped cover living and other expenses in Kota, while senior coaching authorities granted a 10 to 20 per cent fee concession after Prabhat requested financial help.
Preparation
Prabhat initially wanted to pursue the UPSC in Class 9, but his family persuaded him to choose medicine after he scored 89.44 per cent in his Class 10 boards. He later scored 83.44 per cent in his Class 12 exams. Preparing for two years without any screen time on social media like Instagram or YouTube, he improved upon his first attempt in NEET UG 2025 where he had scored 504 marks. He faced initial disappointment due to the NEET paper leak before achieving his final result.
Context
Securing a medical seat through the highly competitive NEET exam often requires years of intense coaching and financial commitment, making financial support from family and fee concessions crucial for students from humble backgrounds. King George's Medical University in Lucknow is one of the premier medical institutions in Uttar Pradesh.
