The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2027 season released its player retention and release lists on Monday, confirming 63 retained players across the five franchises, including 23 overseas signings. Royal Challengers Bengaluru kept 13 Indian and overseas players such as Arundhati Reddy, Ellyse Perry, Georgia Voll and Smriti Mandhana, and let go of four players: Grace Harris, Linsey Smith, Gautami Naik and Dayalan Hemalatha. Mumbai Indians retained ten players including Amanjot Kaur, Amelia Kerr and Shabnim Ismail, while releasing six players among them G Kamalini and Saika Ishaque. Delhi Capitals held on to thirteen players like Annabel Sutherland and Shafali Verma, and released six including Alana King, Lizelle Lee and Sneh Rana. UP Warriorz retained ten players such as Deepti Sharma and Meg Lanning, and released nine players including Kiran Navgire and Deandra Dottin. Gujarat Giants retained fifteen players including Anushka Sharma and Sophie Devine, and released four players, notably England batter Danielle Wyatt‑Hodge. Australian all‑rounder Ellyse Perry, who missed RCB’s 2026 title win, has made herself available for the season that starts on 14 January. The retained pool features 23 overseas recruits spread across the squads.

Context

The WPL retention window determines squad composition for the upcoming season, allowing teams to build around a core group while releasing players they consider surplus. Overseas signings are valuable for bringing experience and raising the competition’s standard.
