HBO Max is premiering its new six-episode psychological thriller series titled "Infamy" or "Infamia" at the South International Series Festival in Cádiz. The series is based on a book by Ledicia Costas and marks the first TV window acquisition for the streaming service in Spain. Evafilms produced the project, which is scheduled to debut on the platform on November 13.

The Story

The dark and atmospheric show stars Goya nominee Susana Abaitua as Emma Cruz, a skilled lawyer who investigates an unsolved case involving two girls who vanished in her hometown two decades earlier. Emma struggles with deep personal trauma and self-blame following the childhood death of her sister, turning the cold case into a way to process her own grief. Meanwhile, the individuals behind the original disappearance work to ensure the truth remains hidden. Filming took place across the Basque Country in Bizkaia to portray the secretive fictional town of Ura.

Behind the Scenes

Agustina Macri and Beatriz Sanchís directed the series, with Macri directing the opening two episodes and Sanchís taking over from the third episode onward. Manuel Gancedo and Eduardo Torallas wrote the screenplay. The wider cast features Jorge Bosch, Jon Olivares, Ane Gabarain, Iñigo Gastesi, Iñigo Azpitarte, Eva Llorach, Asier Oruesagasti, Goya nominee Kandido Uranga, and Chilean actor Luis Gnecco in a special appearance.

Context

Psychological thrillers often use isolated fictional towns and long-buried secrets to explore how past trauma affects the present day. Such streaming acquisitions highlight how platforms increasingly invest in local literary adaptations to capture regional audiences while appealing to global viewers through festival premieres.
