Story Overview
Streaming on Prime Video, the new 12-episode series Love in Disguise blends comedy, romance and suspense in a gender-bending story based on a popular Kakao web novel. The show follows Yoon Yi Jun, a wealthy business heir suspected of murder, and Kang Jae Hee, an undercover detective disguised as a man to investigate him.
Characters and Plot
Yoon Yi Jun is the demanding heir to Taegang Group who lives a controlled life alongside his cat, Jerry. His secretary, Han Eun Young, is found murdered inside an office cabinet, making Yi Jun the prime suspect until his family's influence and legal counsel Kim Si Hyun help secure his release. To investigate further, former special forces operative Kang Jae Hee cuts her hair, disguises herself as a man, and joins Yi Jun as his personal secretary and bodyguard. She survives a disastrous interview by throwing him over her shoulder and saves him from a parking lot attacker to earn the job.
Further Developments
As Jae Hee searches for clues regarding a missing phone and accounting manager Park Min Hwan, Yi Jun deals with insomnia, paranoia and intruders in his home, leading him to ask Jae Hee to taste his food and stay until he falls asleep. The plot also explores corporate tensions involving his controlling father, Chairman Yoon Tae Sik, and his ambitious older sister, Yoon Na Jung. Meanwhile, a second romance develops between legal counsel Kim Si Hyun and secretary Lee Hye Jung, known as the Taegang Goddess.
Context
Gender-bending tropes have long been popular in Korean dramas, with earlier well-known shows like Coffee Prince and Love in the Moonlight exploring similar premises. Such series typically pair comedic workplace dynamics with high-stakes personal secrets to build viewer engagement over a multi-episode run.
