Apple has introduced its first touchscreen MacBook Pro models, with a fully upgraded 16-inch version costing up to $14,549, or roughly ₹13.87 lakh. The company released the new devices in the US, with pre-orders beginning on October 28 and availability set for November.

Pricing and Upgrades

According to MacRumors, the fully upgraded 14-inch model is listed at $14,249, which equals about ₹13.58 lakh. The largest price jump comes from the new 16TB SSD storage upgrade, which adds $7,000 or around ₹6.67 lakh to the bill. Smaller storage steps include a 4TB SSD for an extra $1,000 and an 8TB option adding $3,000. Upgrading to 128GB of unified memory costs another $2,000, while choosing nano-texture glass adds $150.

Hardware and India Prices

The new laptop runs on Apple's M5 Max chipset with an 18-core CPU and a 40-core GPU, featuring a new PROLED XDR display with tandem OLED technology. In India, the base 14-inch M5 Pro starts at ₹3,49,900, while the 16-inch M5 Pro costs ₹4,09,900. The M5 Max variants begin at ₹5,49,900 and ₹5,89,900 respectively.

Context

High-end laptops aimed at professional creators often carry steep price tags due to specialized components like large solid-state drives and advanced display panels. Apple has not officially confirmed whether current memory shortages or rising hardware demands from artificial intelligence development directly caused the high cost of the 16TB storage tier.
