Around 64.5 lakh electors are potentially missing from the final electoral rolls of Karnataka following the Special Intensive Revision exercise.
Details
This gap comes to light based on the Elector-to-Population ratio of 66.11 released by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer. Calculations show that the 18 to 29 age group makes up the majority of those who are missing, totaling roughly 38.41 lakh young people. The State ratio is calculated using the total number of voters on the rolls alongside the estimated population for all age groups in the year 2026, which includes individuals who are under 18 years old and not yet eligible to vote.
Context
Electoral roll revisions are regular administrative exercises carried out to clean up voter lists by removing dead or shifted voters and adding new eligible citizens. Large gaps between expected population counts and actual registered voters often point to areas where eligible citizens need extra help to get their names added before upcoming polls.
