The Kerala government has launched a new health program named Hridayaragam to screen people for diseases at their homes rather than at medical camps. Health Minister K. Muraleedharan announced the initiative during a walkathon organized by the Health department for World Stroke Day. Muraleedharan also released the official logo of the program during the event. The program focuses on stopping chronic diseases early through prevention and timely detection. In its first phase, Hridayaragam will run in the Vattiyurkavu, Idukki, and Nilambur constituencies before rolling out across the entire State. Several leaders and officials joined the walkathon, including MLAs Aryadan Shoukath, M.R. Baiju, and Roy K. Paulose. Kerala Chalachitra Academy vice-chairperson Priyanka Nair, Health Services director V. Meenakshi, and high-power committee chairman S.S. Lal also took part. Dileep R., who works as the nodal officer of the Stroke Centre and Stroke Cath Lab at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, led the participants in taking the Stroke Day pledge.
Context
Doorstep health screening programs help reach people who cannot easily travel to local clinics or hospitals for routine checkups. Bringing medical workers directly into neighborhoods allows authorities to spot chronic health issues earlier and provide faster support to families.
