A 22-year-old man named Bhola Rajput was arrested on Tuesday following a police encounter in Lucknow. He is accused of killing his 32-year-old live-in partner, Radha, whose body was discovered on Kanpur road on September 16.
Details of Arrest
Police said Bhola was a resident of Nandauha village in Unnao and carried a cash reward of ₹ 25,000. Officers tracked him down during vehicle checks in the Duda Colony area of Vijaynagar. When a police team tried to stop him while he was riding a scooter, he tried to run away, fell off the vehicle, and shot at the officers. Police fired back in self-defence, hitting him in the leg. Authorities recovered a .315-bore country-made pistol, an empty cartridge, a live cartridge, and the scooter from him. He was taken to Lok Bandhu Hospital for medical treatment.
Motive and Investigation
Investigators stated that Radha was pressuring Bhola to marry her and had threatened to file a rape case against him. On the night of September 15, the couple was drinking alcohol and got into a big argument over the marriage pressure, which ended in the killing. Police added that Radha was attacked on the head with bricks and stones at Narayanpuri in Krishna Nagar. Her mother filed a complaint after the incident, prompting the registration of a murder case and the formation of three police teams to track down the suspect.
Context
Crimes stemming from personal disputes and pressure over marriage are often investigated through local police teams, forensic evidence, and witness statements from family members. Law enforcement agencies frequently use cash rewards and targeted vehicle checks to apprehend suspects who go into hiding after serious offences.
