Muskan and her partner Sahil were found guilty on September 30 of murdering Muskan's husband, former Merchant Navy officer Saurabh Rajput. The court will announce their punishment in 15 days. The killing was discovered when Rajput's body was uncovered inside a blue drum at his home.

Verdict

The verdict follows a trial that saw more than a hundred hearings and statements from over twenty‑two witnesses. District Judge Arvind Kumar Mishra heard arguments from both sides before delivering the guilty finding.

Trial Details

Prosecution counsel Krishna Kumar Chaubey presented forensic proof, a purchased knife, razor, cement, sand and the large blue drum, arguing the murder was pre‑planned. Police and forensic experts explained how the body was retrieved from the drum, and the post‑mortem report noted injuries caused by sharp‑edged weapons. The defence argued there was no eyewitness and suggested the couple's involvement stemmed from a property dispute. The case first reached the court on March 17, 2025, and the accused were taken to Meerut jail on March 19. The trial moved to the district judge’s court in July 2025 and continued for about thirteen months.

Context

Hiding a corpse in a container such as a drum is a method sometimes used to delay discovery. Indian courts often take many months to finish high‑profile murder trials, especially when forensic evidence is central.
