DC Studios Chief James Gunn Says Casting for New Batman Will Begin Soon

DC Studios chief James Gunn has shared new details about the upcoming search for a fresh actor to play Batman in the rebooted cinematic universe.

Casting Status and Plans

Gunn stated in a podcast interview that the role of Batman has not been cast yet, dismissing ongoing rumors as false. He confirmed that official casting for the character is not very far away. Gunn emphasized his goal to select the best actor for the part rather than just a traditional movie star. When asked by actor Steve Agee about age planning for a long-term franchise commitment, Gunn confirmed that age is a key factor. He noted that the new Batman will be roughly the same age as Superman and serve as a contemporary and future best pal.

Context

This new iteration of Batman will exist separately from Robert Pattinson's ongoing role in Matt Reeves' separate film series. The broader DC universe officially kicked off with the film Superman, starring David Corenswet.
