Prime Video now runs at a revenue pace in the tens of billions of dollars and is profitable on its own, Amazon chief Andy Jassy told investors on Thursday’s earnings call. The streaming arm has been bolstered by blockbuster movies and strong sports viewership. Amazon’s movie studio, Amazon MGM Studios, has earned more than $1.2 billion in global box‑office receipts this year, helped by hits such as Project Hail Mary and Verity. Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling and based on Andy Weir’s novel, pulled in an estimated $684 million worldwide, making it the studio’s highest‑grossing release so far. Jassy also highlighted several TV successes, naming Carrie, The Summer I Turned Pretty, The Boys, Off Campus, Fallout and Reacher. Reacher’s fourth season attracted 66 million viewers worldwide in its first 28 days; a fifth season is already filming and the series has been renewed for a sixth. Sports content continues to drive numbers. Prime Video streams NASCAR, the Masters and UEFA Champions League, but Thursday Night Football is the biggest win this year, with the first six games averaging 17.7 million viewers – a 16 percent jump from last season. The NBA’s second season on Prime drew over 2 million viewers, according to Nielsen. These performances sit on top of Amazon’s four‑year‑old $8.5 billion acquisition of MGM, which still fuels new content pipelines. ## Context Amazon’s push into premium video content mirrors a broader industry shift where e‑commerce giants use streaming to lock in customers and create new profit centers beyond retail.
