Buyers with sixteen to eighteen lakh rupees in hand face a close choice between the top-spec Hyundai Bayon HX10 and the mid-level Kia Seltos HTX(A).

Dimensions and Space

The Kia Seltos measures 4,460 millimetres long, giving it an extra 215 millimetres over the Bayon and a 90 millimetres longer wheelbase for better cabin room. It also stands 30 millimetres taller and 20 millimetres wider than its rival. However, the Bayon fights back with five millimetres more ground clearance and a 505-litre trunk, beating the Seltos luggage space by 58 litres.

Engines and Gearboxes

Both models share a 1.5-litre petrol engine making 115 horsepower and 144 Newton-metres of torque, paired with a six-speed manual or CVT automatic. But the Seltos brings more options, offering a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol motor pushing 160 horsepower and a diesel variant making 116 horsepower. The Bayon petrol manual mileage figures remain hidden, while its CVT model delivers 18.6 kilometres per litre compared to the Seltos petrol rating of 16.5.

Features and Safety

Inside, both SUVs pack dual 12.3-inch displays, Bose audio, ventilated seats, and panoramic sunroofs. The Seltos adds dual-zone climate control and rear sunshades, while the Bayon counters with an artificial intelligence voice assistant and a built-in dashcam. Both offer six airbags and high-end safety tools like a 360-degree camera and lane-keep assist.

Pricing and Value

Prices for the manual petrol models sit at Rs 16.65 lakh for the Bayon and Rs 17.02 lakh for the Seltos. The CVT versions cost Rs 18 lakh and Rs 18.32 lakh respectively, meaning the Seltos demands just 32,000 to 37,000 rupees extra.

Context

Automakers often create cross-segment comparisons like this to help buyers choose between top variants of compact models and mid trims of larger vehicles. Both Hyundai and Kia belong to the same parent automotive group, making such internal brand rivalry common in the Indian car market.
