The INDIA alliance will hold a public removal drive against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Friday afternoon at Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge's residence, Rajaji Marg, as a prelude to the Sunday rally.
Event Details
Sources say the programme will steer clear of any caricatures or banners showing the Prime Minister, Home Minister or the commissioner, and will not display symbols of the ruling benches.
Speakers
Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar is expected to preside. Kharge, who also leads the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, will move the motion. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is overseeing the finer arrangements. Both Lok Sabha opposition leaders will each have about 20 minutes to speak, while the Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress are allotted 10 minutes each and other parties five minutes each. Rahul Gandhi is slated to deliver the final address.
Public Participation
Representatives of civil society, student bodies and individuals omitted from electoral rolls are invited. One spokesperson from each political party will address the gathering.
Context
On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi posted a video urging citizens to join the INDIA bloc's "Chalo Dilli" march at Ramlila Maidan on 1 November, assuring that police action would not deter the crowd.
Context
The event reflects growing concerns over alleged manipulation of electoral rolls through the Special Intensive Revision process, prompting the opposition to seek a high‑visibility challenge to the election commission's credibility.
