UPDATE - follow-up to T.N. govt. to establish five Model Registration Hubs in first phase: The Tamil Nadu government has raised the upper age limit for direct recruitment to state government jobs by five years following persistent demands from competitive examination candidates. According to Hindustan Times - India, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay directed the implementation of this policy change to provide relief to job seekers across the state.

Age Limits

For general category candidates appearing for the Group 1 civil services examinations, the maximum age limit moves from 32 to 37 years. Reserved category applicants in the same group see their age limit increase from 37 to 42 years. Group II and Group II-A examination age limits rise to 35 years for general category aspirants compared to the previous 30, while reserved category applicants face no upper age limit at all. Candidates taking Group IV examinations receive a matching five-year relaxation, moving the limit to 37 years from the previous 32. This age relaxation stays active for a duration of five years beginning October 30, 2026, benefiting thousands of exam candidates throughout the state.

Context
