Mokama MLA Anant Singh announced on Friday that he will surrender by December 1 following a Supreme Court directive in the Dularchand Yadav murder case.
The Supreme Court Order
The top court ordered the surrender while hearing a petition to cancel the bail granted to Mr. Singh by the Patna High Court in March. Mr. Singh was previously arrested for allegedly planning the murder in October of last year. Expressing faith in the judiciary, he stated that he expects to get bail again after later hearings.
Political Allegations and Reactions
Mr. Singh claimed that JD(U) MLC Neeraj Kumar plotted to falsely frame him and pushed for his bail cancellation. Mr. Kumar denied these claims, stating he has no connection to the petition and is unaware of the judicial order. RJD working president Tejashwi Yadav linked the court order to Mr. Singh's split with the NDA, noting that Mr. Singh had campaigned for a Jan Suraaj candidate against Mr. Kumar in a recent legislative council election. The JD(U) previously expelled Mr. Singh and his wife for anti-party activities and asked the assembly speaker to cancel his membership. Mr. Singh denied any political vendetta by the government, maintaining that only Mr. Kumar is responsible.
Context
Surrender orders in high-profile criminal cases often follow legal challenges regarding bail by higher courts. Political tensions frequently intersect with legal battles involving elected representatives in state politics.
