Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has become the first bowler from the country to take 150 wickets in international T20 cricket. During the fourth match of the five-match series against New Zealand in Auckland, he reached this milestone by dismissing New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner. New Zealand had batted first and scored 259 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.
Records And Rankings
With this achievement, Arshdeep takes the ninth spot on the all-time list of wicket-takers in international T20 cricket. He is also only the third fast bowler to cross the 150-wicket mark in a format mostly led by spin bowlers, following Tim Southee of New Zealand and Mustafizur Rahman of Bangladesh. DinaMani reports that Arshdeep took two wickets in the match, raising his total for the calendar year to 38 wickets from just 26 innings. This breaks the previous record held by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who took 37 wickets in 31 innings back in 2022. Ireland's Joshua Little holds the global single-year record with 39 wickets.
Context
Milestones in international cricket often highlight the heavy workload and skill required by fast bowlers to succeed across different conditions. Records for wickets taken within a single calendar year track a player's peak form during a busy schedule of bilateral series. Breaking long-standing records set by senior teammates shows how newer players continue to raise the standard for the national side.
