Sun Pharmaceutical Industries reported a 36.4 percent year-on-year drop in consolidated net profit to 1,988.5 crore rupees for the September quarter.
Financial Details
The profit drop came after the company took exceptional charges of 1,268.8 crore rupees linked to its acquisition of Organon and a settlement in an antitrust legal case. Without these exceptional items, the adjusted net profit reached 3,162 crore rupees. Revenue from operations went up by nearly 12 percent year-on-year to 16,198.7 crore rupees during the same period.
Market Breakdown
Managing director Kirti Ganorkar said strong business momentum in India, emerging markets, and the rest of the world drove the overall performance. At the same time, U.S. formulation sales fell by 8.2 percent to 455 million dollars in the second quarter of financial year 2027. These U.S. sales made up about 27 percent of the total consolidated sales for the company.
Context
Large pharmaceutical companies often manage complex global operations where one-time legal settlements or major business acquisitions can heavily impact quarterly profits even when regular sales grow. Large drug makers also frequently navigate shifting revenue shares between their domestic markets and key international regions like the United States.
