What Happened
An inquest has confirmed that British vocalist Lauren Bennett, 36, took her own life. The former G.R.L member, who appeared on LMFAO’s 2011 smash "Party Rock Anthem," was discovered in a rural part of Kent on 29 May after she told her husband she was going for a walk that morning. When she failed to return, her husband, dancer Kenny Wormald, and her father Richard Bennett used a phone‑location app to locate her and found her body. The court heard she had been battling severe mental health problems, including a diagnosis of Fragile X syndrome, a genetic condition linked to anxiety and depression. In January she endured several sleepless nights, was admitted to hospital under a mental‑health section and placed under special mental‑health services. She reportedly reacted badly to medication and expressed hopelessness about recovery. No alcohol or illicit substances were present in her system. Pages of farewell notes were later found at her home.
Reaction
Kenny Wormald said the couple had spoken openly about everything and he saw no warning sign. Richard Bennett remembered his daughter signing a record deal at 17 and moving to the United States on her own, describing her life as "amazing." The girl‑pop group G.R.L posted a sorrowful message on Instagram, saying their hearts were broken. Former bandmate Aria Crescendo called her "super talented, super beautiful and super funny," adding that they were shocked by the loss.
Context
Fragile X syndrome can cause mood swings and heightened anxiety, making mental‑health care crucial for those affected. The case highlights the pressures faced by young artists and the importance of early support for severe mental‑health conditions.
