Maruti Suzuki's Dzire sedan has crossed 3.5 million units in cumulative production. The milestone was reached in October 2026, about 18 years and nine months after the model began production in January 2008 at the Manesar plant. Dzire hit five lakh units in July 2012, ten lakh in April 2015, fifteen lakh in July 2017, twenty lakh in June 2019, twenty‑five lakh in June 2022, and thirty lakh in December 2024. The first ten lakh took seven years and three months, while the most recent ten lakh was built in four years and four months, despite a pandemic slowdown between the twenty and twenty‑five lakh marks. During April–September 2026 the sedan sold 1,25,988 units in India, a 16.65% rise from the same period last year and an average of roughly 21,000 units a month. Tata Punch sold 1,23,287 units, leaving Dzire ahead by 2,701 units. WagonR, Ertiga and Nexon followed with 1,16,029, 1,12,557 and 1,11,919 units respectively. Export shipments for the period were 25,502 units, keeping Dzire among Maruti's five highest‑exported models. The latest‑generation Dzire launched in November 2024 features a fresh exterior, two‑tone interior, added equipment and a 1.2‑litre three‑cylinder Z‑Series petrol engine that replaces the older four‑cylinder K‑Series. It is also the first Maruti sedan to earn a five‑star Bharat NCAP safety rating, complemented by five‑star adult and four‑star child scores from Global NCAP. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, thanked customers, employees, suppliers and dealers for sustaining the model's success across four generations.
Context
The milestone shows how a long‑running model can stay popular by updating design, engine and safety features. Maruti Suzuki leads India's car market, so its best‑selling sedan influences overall industry trends.
